Home
The home of Emile and Brooks was built in 1946 and continued to creatively unfold until the end of Emile’s life. Emile would frequently remark that the house “was almost finished” well into his eighties. The surrounding land, house, and personal collection of artwork as an integral whole is the highest expression of the artist and his life’s passions. Experiencing Emile Norman’s home as he lived and worked in it is a transformative moment in time for each and every visitor. Various materials were integrated and embedded into the structure of the home. Emile fused the walls and floors, built in cabinets and shelves, decorated a stone and ceramic fireplace and sculpted the indoor circular pool and fountains. All were shaped, molded, set, inlaid, forged, constructed, in his own design, methods, and materials. Emile’s home is an alchemical experience transmuting ordinary life into an extraordinary visual symphony inspired by the natural world surroundings.
